Good question, Lynn. It is a lot personal preference, but here are my reasons.

1) Roof rack is expensive (compared to just sticking bike in the back).
2) A roof rack hurts gas mileage. Rear rack is a hassle (Fit has no hitch).
3) Better protection - don't have to worry about driving under something or having a foreign object mess up your bike.
4) Aesthetics - looks pretty cool with bikes on it, but without the bikes...

I might break down and get a roof rack at some point should I decided to take a several hour trip with the family and want to take a couple of bikes. However, until I have to I'll save the cash. I'll burn a lot of gas in my Suburban before I'll spend as much as I would on a rack system!

I love the Fit! They are super cute.....Honda owner myself (Odyssey though, I have to have seating for five little monkeys)...just curious though as to why not use a rack on the outside for the bike, rather than in?? I've seen people at Donaldson with bikes all apart and just wondering if it's just a personal preference -- i.e. in the car rather than on the car?
